Different ways of looking

gaze -  to look steadily for a long time, either because you are very interested or suprised or because you´re thinking of something else.
            He gazed dreamly out of the window.

stare -   to look at sth for a long time.
             She stared at him in disbelief.

glare - to look at something in an angry way.

            They glared angrily at each other.

peer -  to look closely at sth, especially when you cannot see it clearly.
            I peered into the dark room.

squint - to look at something with your eyes partly shut in order to keep out bright light or to see better.

              I squinted at the target.

glance -  to look quicly at sth/sb.
               She glanced quickly at her watch.

eye -  to look at sth/sb carefully, especially because you want sth or you are suspicious of sth.
          They eyed each other suspiciously.

scan - to look at every part of something carefully, because you are looking for a particular thing or person.

             He scanned the crowd anxiously but couldn´t see her.

examine -  to consider or study an idea, a subject very carefully
                   Scientists are examining the wreckage.

study - the act of considerating or examining something in detail.

             I spent a few minutes studying the map.

inspect -to look closely at sth, especially to check that everything is satisfactory.

               New buildings have to be inspected by the Fire Department.
